Strategies for Understanding and Working with Sexual Expression in Care Settings

Outline/Learning objectives:

  1. Gain a better understanding of the link between changes in the brain as a result of dementia and how those changes affect how a person might express their sexuality
  2. Gain an understanding of the meaning of sexual expression and the need for touch throughout the lifespan
  3.  Participants will increase their comfort level in addressing issues related to  sexual expression and determining which behaviours are cause for concern and which are not
  4. Participants will learn to challenge their own assumptions and biases when sexual expression is observed by the residents or clients they are serving
  5. We will address working with families and having some of those challenging conversations that come up around discussing their family members sexuality.
